The Gala committee's aims and objectives are to continue the long tradition of this annual event, which has been run successfully by volunteers over the last 67 years. The Committee are longstanding volunteers and residents of Spennymoor Town and is a non-profit group.

Spennymoor Football Club first ran the event and, in 1955, moved to its present site, Jubilee Park, where it has been located for over 80 years. This is a historical event in the Towns calendar, held on the first Saturday in July, and has evolved to become the most significant community event each year.

Spennymoor Gala brings the entire community together and encourages schools, community groups and the general public’s participation. It brings an element of kudos for all participating – recognition and appreciation for being involved in it/with it, either as a participant or spectator of the event.

The event includes a Parade procession throughout the Town, with Spennymoor Town Brass Band, musical groups, vintage vehicles, and street entertainment, together with the schools and community groups, including the reformed Spennymoor Jazz Band, with original participants from the 1970s. The Parade culminates in free family entertainment within Jubilee Park for the remainder of the event.

The Spennymoor Gala Committee works with the Culine’s Funfair (part of the Showman’s Guild), which has a longstanding history with Spennymoor and with the Gala, the Showmen being involved from the very beginning. We collaborate with John Culine MBE (our Committee Chairman) and others from the Fairground to bring this day together.
